Hard Hats and Robins

What do hard hats and robins have in common, you might ask. Nothing except that I have had encounters with both this week. Today I and a few of my fellow workers at the Morris center got to take a tour of the up and coming Central Production Kitchen. We Were supposed to take control of it on April 1, 2009. Well the projected date of the date of possession is September 1st. Anyway it is still mostly a cement building with many coolers, freezers, and production areas. It looks like we will have plenty of work to do. It is going to be more like a factory, assembly line type thing. We may even run two shifts. One really early. Or late depending on how you look at it, Some people are probably going to start at 10 p.m. Especially bakery and ice cream makers. Supposedly we should be sending out fresh cut veggies, fruit and other things by 4:00 a.m. Oh goody! Those of us who will be working in "veg prep", and "garmashay" will be working in a refrigerated environment. That is in rooms kept at 43 degrees. I don.t know about that, but I think it would be preferable to the stifling heat we work in now. There are very few days when I am too cold. Most of the time I am boiling hot! Many in the department, especially the thin tiny women are cold, and want all the air circulators turned off. Meanwhile. all I want is to be able to get fresh air and to stop sweating "like a butcher" as Grandma H would say. I really think I wouldn't be so exhausted after work if I could get a little air and coolness. If it gets to cold in the work stations, we can always add clothes, we can't take them off! Now to the Robins. For the last two days. when I get out to the garage in the morning I have heard this tapping at the garage window. When I first heard it I "thought, What the hey"? upon further investigation, I discover a big fat robin fighting the robin in the window, Every time he attacked his foe, it attacked him right back. He just wouldn't back down. I waved my arms, and he flew away, but was back at war with himself before I got back in the car to go to work. Yesterday he was gone by the time got home around 6:30 p.m. yesterday he was gone. This morning he was back, and of course so was his opponent. When I got back today at around 4:30 p.m. he was still at it. I got out of my car and went and looked in the window, and sure enough there I was looking at myself. He had managed to knock off the screen and poop a lot on the window sill. His opponent just won't get out of his territory.
